Project genre

For our project “the 100th Victim”, we have crafted a 2-minute 20-second opening sequence in the crime thriller genre. This genre merges the psychological intensity of thrillers with the suspenseful and investigative aspects of crime stories, keeping viewers hooked through tension, mystery, and darker themes.

We drew inspiration from the psychological crime thriller Se7en (1995), celebrated for its haunting atmosphere, complex storytelling, and disturbing yet captivating visuals. Additionally, the TV series Dexter influenced us, as it skillfully intertwines crime, morality, and psychological depth through its unique main character and stylized cinematography. These influences significantly shaped our storytelling, cinematography, and editing techniques.

The crime thriller genre excels in building suspense, often featuring morally ambiguous characters, unsettling themes, and a heightened sense of realism. It engages the audience's emotions, prompting them to delve into the psychological and investigative aspects of the story. With our project, we aim to encapsulate this essence—creating an opening that is immersive, visually striking, and thematically thought-provoking, setting the stage for a narrative that is both gripping and unsettling.
